Thanks to The Wire and, currently showing on FX, Generation Kill (but mostly The Wire), writer of the moment, David Simon, has an army of fans that will to gobble up anything he does. When it was announced that his next project would be a post-Katrina series set in New Orleans, the whole TV world gasped. Knowing Simon’s liking for sprawling, gritty and uber-urban dramas, fans started to rub their hands together even though little details were on the table. Now it’s starting to take shape. Have a look over the jump for more details.

The Hollywood Reporter report that Steve Zahn is in talks to appear as Davis Rogan, a street dancer, radio DJ, band member and an all-round dude with a few anger issues. Apparently Zahn is a real life musician, so the production team is looking to utilise his skills.
Elsewhere, actress Kim Dickens has signed on (along with Clark Peters, Wendell Pierce and Khandi Alexander) to play a chef who has opened a new restaurant and has a bit of previous with Rogan.
The HR says that this, if he signs on, will be Zahn’s first big TV series, just in case you were asking “who is Steve Zahn?”
This is all interesting stuff. The show itself will be look at how local residents are rebuilding the city, especially the local musical community. I like the sound of it, and the whole musical element (the city is, of course, famed for its vibrant musical underground) lends this a real edge. And, in Simon’s hands, it can’t be anything other than quite good.
