One of the hits of 2009 so far is Being Human, BBC Three's comic drama showing what happens when a ghost, a werewolf and a vampire all live together in a flat in Bristol. As you can imagine, things are complicated. It's sharp, funny, has emotional clout, and enough of the fantasy genre to make fan boys and girls wet themselves on a regular basis. With all that in light, the news that it has been re-commissioned for a second series is massively welcome.

For all our Being Human news and reviews, go here.

The final episode of the first series is due to air this Sunday (29 February, 9pm) so all eyes should be on that, but it's nice timing to release details of the second series. Makes the final ep so much sweeter, knowing that there will be more to come. Makes a change from the pilot, where we had to wait ages to hear whether it had been picked up for a full first series or not.

So here are the details so far. Series two will be an eight-part series (that's two more episodes than the first series), and the likes of Russell Tovey, Aidan Turner and Lenora Crichlow will be back as George, Mitchell and Annie respectively.

Man at Touchpaper Television said this: "We already have some very exciting, very dark new stories up our sleeves, so we're delighted to have the opportunity to make a second series of Being Human. BBC Three has been a brilliant platform for us to mount an unusual and ambitious drama."

So good news all round, and - when you look at the figures - a no-brainer for BBC Three. It averages about a million viewers, has been the most watched show on iPlayer this year and is one of the corporation's best-performing websites.
