I love being able to catch up on TV shows an hour later after they’ve aired. If I’ve got in later than planned and don’t want to miss the start of a show then it’s brilliant. But really, do we need so many +1 channels? Especially when some of them seem to show repeats throughout the evening? It’s getting a little bit over the top now. What’s next? Channel -1?
Channel 4 +1, and even ITV2 +1 are fine, to an extent. But it’s E4 +1 I’m having an issue with at the moment. Aside from a couple of American reality shows and teen soaps, they only seem to show repeats of Friends. They show the same two episodes several times a day! So, you could, in theory watch the same episode of friends 6 times in one day if you flicked back and forth from channel to channel. Doesn’t this strike anyone else as stupid? King of BBC repeats, Dave, have recently started following the same +1 format. The novelty of that channel has long worn off now it’s clear their evening is (mostly, apart from the new stuff) made up of the same three shows repeated twice. I don’t want to watch the same shows again! Twice.
It’s not really worth it is it? Paying extra for a digibox and still finding nothing to watch on the TV because it’s the same show you didn’t want to watch an hour ago is annoying. There’s a place for these channels, but not channels that show so many repeats already. Sometimes, with all of the repeats and catch ups and first looks and everything else, I’m pretty certain I’ve watched an episode of Hollyoaks 20 times in one week. At least it feels like that. That’s not really a good use of telly time, is it?
I’m just waiting for a show to have a -1 channel. Then you can watch a repeat of Friends before you’ve even cooked your tea. Don’t they have an episode called “The one you saw this morning, this afternoon and an hour ago”?
