ITV1 is carving a really nice little niche out for itself at the moment. It's the channel to go to for short-run, interesting dramas and the latest starts next Monday (Monday 2 February, 9pm). It stars Ruper Penry-Jones, the ever-scowling Phil Davis and Steve Pemberton in a new take on the Ripper myth/story. When a grisly murder takes places in the wastelands of London's Eastend, smart and posh DI Joseph Chandler gets fast-tracked onto the case, he soon finds out he doesn't know what he's doing. He's not getting much help from his experienced partner, Ray Miles, but they start to bond when they find more murders replicating the original Ripper's methods. Together, and with Steve Pemberton's eccentric Ripper tour operator, they try to crack the case.
