If anyone was to host a seminar on good fantasy TV versus bad fantasy TV they would surely use these two shows as fine examples. Demons, it has to be said, has been merde. I sort of enjoyed the opening episode, mainly for Mackenzie Crook's brilliant Teddy Boy on acid outfit, but what always worried me was the standard of writing and the neither-family-nor-adult timeslot. Subsequent episodes revealed these flaws in greater detail. On the flipside, Being Human is a razor-sharp, flatshare comedy with fantasy overtones. Now that's how you write fresh and fun geek TV.

This week's episode of Demons could well be the best yet. Why? Because it's not about the ludicrous backstory of Rupert Galvin and Luke Skywalker Van Helsing. I never thought I'd say this but I'm actually glad this episode gives Philip Glenister less screen time - after a while his American accent and the cliches he has to spout just render him very annoying to watch.

No, this episode is all about Demons' best character, Mina Harker. She's got a smart mouth, looks amazing and manages to retain an air of mystery and enigma about her while the rest of them bluster all over the place. In tonight's episode her backstory becomes fully apparent. I won't give everything away, but if you know you Bram Stoker's Dracula, you'll already know who Mina Harker is and there's more to her than meets the eye. You'll also be aware of who Quincey is - the cool and charismatic vampire who comes to town and tries to tempt Mrs H over to the dark side.

Over on BBC Three on Sunday is Being Human. I've already written a shed-load on it this week, but for one reason and one reason only - it's really good and I think you'll really like it if you watched it.

Of course, it caters for a younger, geekier audience, but because it's on at 9pm it can afford to be (surprisingly) gory in places. The later timeslot also gives it more license to let rip with some sharp humour and a sexy edge.

Just to remind you, Being Human tells the story of a werewolf (Russell Tovey), a ghost (Lenora Crichlow) and a vampire (Aidan Turner) living under the same house. It's good fun and well worth a watch.
