I reckon it's quite reasonable to assume that Derren Brown's greatest stunt has been on us, the public. Since he first appeared on our screens, everyone fell in love with him. Quite rightly in my opinion. He's the owner of a handsome (and slightly impish) face and has charisma in bucketfuls. Obviously, with Brown being the master of the mindfuck, the easiest thing to do is to believe that he's playing a huge trick on us... when really, the truth of the matter is that he's just really really good at entertaining us. So with that, we should all tune into Derren Brown: Evening of Wonders (Channel 4, Tuesday, 13 January, 10pm).

Thinking about it, Brown is the best showman on the planet right now. David Blaine is a big lumbering and dreary idiot next to the suave Brown... and all those Vegas showboaters can go whistle. The tinsel distracts while Brown burrows into your psyche with little more than a polite voice and a well-tailored suit.

So, in Tuesday's show, he bewitches the audience of a London theatre with a host of increasingly gobsmacking routines. The best bit about the whole schtick is that Brown continually tells us that he possesses absolutely no psychic powers. That doesn't stop us all from crying "WELL HOW ON EARTH DO YOU DO IT THEN?!"
