If there's a god (which there isn't) I hope it's someone just like David Attenborough. In fact, should someone stick a gun at my head and tell me that I must choose a deity, then it's going to be Sir Dave. Such is my fondness for Him, that I can't conceive anyone disliking him. So imagine my surprise when I discovered he'd been getting hate mail. Not only that, but hate mail from Christians!

So why have Christians been acting all... unchristian? What has The Lord God Attenborough done to rile 'em up? Well, speaking to the Radio Times about his recent work on Charles Darwin and natural selection, he said: "They tell me to burn in hell and good riddance," because he doesn't credit God with the amazing things he covers.

He continued; "They always mean beautiful things like hummingbirds. I always reply by saying that I think of a little child in East Africa with a worm burrowing through his eyeball. The worm cannot live in any other way, except by burrowing through eyeballs. I find that hard to reconcile with the notion of a divine and benevolent creator."
