Yes, the speculation has been frenzied and frantic ever since David Tennant announced he was to hang up his Converse at the Television Awards last year, but tomorrow, it will all abate: the identity of the new Doctor will be unveiled on Doctor Who Confidential, BBC One, tomorrow at 5.35pm. I’m pretty excited…
But who will it be? There have been loads of names linked to the role, including many who have already appeared in the show. John Simm (*sigh* if only), Russell Tovey and Catherine Tate all seem highly unlikely – but then Freema Agyeman had been in one episode before becoming the tenth Doctor’s second assistant. Other names in the running include Paterson Joseph, James Nesbitt and James McAvoy, but according to this Guardian article ex-Doctor Peter Davidson has said that it will be an unknown… We’ll find out for sure tomorrow.
UPDATE: In the advert for tomorrow’s Doctor Who Confidential, now called “The Eleventh Doctor”, David Tennant refers to his successor as ‘the chap’ and ‘he’. So unless that’s a red herring – and I really wouldn’t put it past them – we’re not going to have our first Time Lady.
