BBC Three launches spring season

Since its re-launch last year, BBC Three is closer to its core audience of 16-25-year-olds than you could possibly be. Unfortunately this means goodbye to more adult shows like Pulling and Adam Buxton’s MeeBox, and hello to stuff like Lily Allen and the lamentable Coming Of Age. I’m way out of that demographic and yet I still enjoy elements of the channel – The World’s Strictest Parents and occasionally Don’t Tell The Bride are worth a watch. Anyway, the channel has launched its spring schedule, so what’s on?

The first thing to mention is that Britain’s Missing Top Model won’t be back for a second series. The show that we voted in at number nine of our Top 50 last year has, according to the channel, did what it set out to do (ie. raise awareness of disability).

So what has the channel got this coming season?

- Lily Allen And Friends returns for a second series. The first was an absolute mess, but did have a few good bits in it.

- Young Butcher Of The Year. An interesting one, and a series featuring young butchers up and down the country ina TV talent contest. Still sounds weird though. Apparently this is the first in a (hopefully short) line of these kinds of things, with Hairdesser, Chef and Mechanic Of The Year all in the pipeline.

- Horne and Corden. From Gavin and Stacey. With their sitcom going over to BBC One, here’s a chance for the pair to spread their wings a bit and do their own sketch show. If their stint on the recent Secret Policeman’s Ball was anything to go by, it’ll be rubbish. But if their efforts on Gavin And Stacey are anything to go by, it’ll be terrific.

- We Are Klang. Edinburgh faves brings their unique humour to their own series.

- P.A.s. This is a new drama follows the fortunes of four ‘fabulous’ PAs in the City. Sounds a bit like Party Animals without the politicians.

- Being Human. This will be great, but we know about all this already.

- My Life As An Animal. Eight ivolunteers take part in a bold experiment – to try to learn more about animals by actually living with them. Now, I mentioned this format was doing the rounds at some TV festival a while back, and it looks as though BBC Three has picked it up.

Still no word on whether Coming Of Age will be back.
