I do shudder whenever a new comedy sketch show comes to town. Fast Show, fair enough (it set the template), Big Train fair enough (it had Simon Pegg and Kevin Eldon in it and was written in part by the peerless Arthur Mathews) and Smack The Pony was ok too. But Tittybangbang? Touch Me, I’m Karen Taylor? No thanks. By their very nature they’re hit-and-miss, and the only recent effort I reasonably enjoyed was Man Stroke Woman. So what’s this new one all about?

So what will Beehive offer that hasn’t been done before. I was reading an interview with one of the four women who have written and performed it explained that the show would not rely on catchphrases (now the bane of the sketch show) and would lampoon fresh subjects.
The pictures show that the performers – Alice Lowe, Sarah Kendall, Barunka O’Shaughnessy and Clare Thomson – doing their takes on Sex And The City, Russell Brand and air hostesses.
It’s always good to see new, fresh and comic talent on the telly – fair play to BBC Three and E4 for doing so – but the recent track record in this genre suggests it’s a hard one to crack. Let’s see how they get on…
