Hurrah! Today is the day. The Devil’s Whore starts on Channel 4 tonight (Wednesday 19 November, 9pm) and it should be really good. Or average. Even bad, maybe. But what I’ve seen of it (the first episode), it was more than good. I have high hopes, so we’ll see what happens. It stars Andrea Riseborough, John Simm and Dominic West, and tells the story of a young woman called Angelica. She’s a member of the King’s court and footloose and fancy free, but isn’t your average 17th century lady. She marries one of the posh young bucks and life for her finally looks ok.
