One of the great forgotten dramas of 2008 is undoubtedly BBC Three’s Being Human. It was part of the re-launched channel’s pilots season, which saw us enjoy Phoo Action among other things. But Being Human was the pick of the bunch by some distance, and the response from TV Scoop readers was a resounding thumbs up too. It starred rising stars Russell Tovey, Andrea Riseborough and Guy Flanagan as a werewolf, ghost and vampire (respectively) who were sharing a house. It was interesting, funny and the three cast members sparked off each other beautifully (Riseborough was particularly good as the fragile, needy and insecure ghost). We all rejoiced when the BBC decided to make it into a series and now it has announced cast details. Read on for more.

The good news is that Russell Tovey returns as werewolf George, who still battles with his double identity (mild-mannered hospital porter by day and frothing wolfman by night).
But… gone are Andrea Riseborough and Guy Flanagan to be replaced by Lenora Crichlow and Aidan Turner.
There’s no doubting that Crichlow is a very fine young actress (remember her in Sugar Rush and Kiss Of Death?), but her appointment worries me. She has played mostly ballsy, feisty characters in the past to play a sensitive, lost soul represents quite a challenge for her. As for Aidan Turner, he was in the clinic.
It is a massive shame that the original cast have been broken up – they worked really, really well together - but at least we have a full series of Being Human. Look out for it next year. Can’t wait.
