Do you remember January this year? Like other noteable Januarys, it was a month that was sandwiched in between December and February. It also saw people join gymnasiums, give up smoking for several minutes and be generally miserable. There was one thing that kept me going through that long, bleak winter month and, weirdly, it was a television programme. It was called Extreme Pilgrim. It was like a mental and spiritual detox, an enormous televisual broom to sweep away the cobwebs and I still maintain that it's one of the best things I've seen on television this year. Now its host, the right-on Reverend Peter Owen Jones, is to return in a new series and I can't wait.

To read our reviews on Extreme Pilgrim, go here.

For Extreme Pilgrim, Peter visited and really experienced four (I think it was four if memory serves me correctly) different relgions at the extreme end of their worship. He fasted, he slept in caves and he got stoned with some Hindus. The whole thing forced him to look his own faith, his own spirituality, and for the viewer it did the same. It was amazing stuff.

But that was Extreme Pilgrim. This is Around The World In 80 Faiths. BBC Two has already done Around The World In 80 Treasures and Around The World In 80 Gardens (which was really good actually), and now Peter's going on a mad trip around the globe to take part in some of the most important religious rituals.

This may all sound a bit dull, but I urge you to watch it - knowing Peter he'll be throwing himself head-long into challenges and situations, be open to questioning his very essence and report back eloquently from some seriously gorgeous places.

We're promised snake handlers, Voodoo practitioners, whirling dervishes, horse-riding Sikhs, shaman and Taoist monks seeking immortality, so it'll definitely worth the watch. Look out for it next year.

I am so looking forward to this program if Extreme Pilgrim is anything to go by it will knock our so cks off!!

Come and see Peter Owen-Jones at Alternatives, St James's Church, 197 Piccadilly, London W1J 9LL on the last Monday of February 2009. He'll be speaking from 7pm to 8.30pm and there will be time to meet and chat with him. Full details at www.alternatives.org.uk

peter is a wonderful person a pleasure toknow him cant wait for around the world

I thorougly enjoyed Around the World... and previous programmes. Would love to listen to Peter Owen-Jones at St. James' in Feb. 09. Does he ever visit Wales?

WOW! I have just watched the 2nd episode of Around the world in 80 faiths and it has given me a depth of insight into how religion is potrayed in our world.
Coming also from an Anglican perspective, during my childhood this belief was someway inflicted upon me.
I have been curiously seeking opening my senses to expand my identity. What better way than to get a snap shot overview of other religions. This superbly narrated programme not only inspires me to delve into my own beliefs and religious values but also to encompass others perceptions of what or who God is.
I have travelled around parts of Asia and read various literature about customs and traditions. I watched this programme and identified many rituals I had previously seen when travelling but not known what they were.
Peter appears a knowledgable and philosophical man who seemed not only congruent but also relative to many of other peoples beliefs.
The only negative was the lack of depth on each religion but with managing to cover 80 around the world on a BBC budget, I feel he has done remarkable.
When is this out on DVD?
I would love to own a copy!

Peter should approach the Spiritual teacher who can
really make a difference, Philip Sauvage. In exile for 18 years, persecuted and hunted by the french government of Mitterand after Sauvage refused to rid Mitterand of his cancer. Due to Miterrand rejecting Sauvage's condition that the French government share the profit of the Gulf War with the people of france. For a full picture of Sauvage's background and projects, read www.psproof.com + www.thulea.com

Anyone knows how to email Peter?

I have been so moved and inspired by your current series - as a Catholic/Buddhist/don't know what - I am now determined to find spiritual peace in my life. Unfortunately I cannot get to your talk in London. I live in West Wales - will you be giving talks anywhere closer to me or perhaps making a video of your talk?

I would like to email Peter, anyone know his address ?

Thanks.

I'm looking forward to seeing Peter at St. James' on the 23rd Feb.I've delved into many aspects of spirituality in my quest for personal identity and fulfilment and have sought to find the common thread that binds them all.I believe that Peter has shown us that we ARE all one and the same consciousness - the divine runs like a wonderful thread through us all - it's simply that we express it in six billion different ways - and why not?

I too would like to email Peter, or Duggie as I knew him when we worked together in mid 80s. If you could give me his email address or him my address I'd much appreciate it. Thanks.

Dear Peter,
You've come long long way since those early days at WCRS.
Watched your recent opus with fascination. It was brilliant. You MUST be an Aquarian! Please confirm.

Best thoughts,
Ron

I have just come home after Peter's wonderful talk at St James' - it was a 'full house' and deservedly so! Like other correspondents on this page I would very much like email Peter if anybody has an email address for him.

I am trying to get hold of Peter's book Bed of Nails (and am having a real job to find it) which he wrote while he was at theological college . I am loathe to give it back to the Queen foundation theological library where I found it amongst Calvin, Augustine, etc. I love the way he describes his fellow students and his deep insights. If anyone has his e mail or could forward this onto him I would appreciate it greatly.
Many thanks, Maureen
