Jeff Stelling to present Countdown

rex_525578a.jpgI promised, some weeks ago, that I wouldn’t be covering Countdown anymore. This was thanks, in large, to a seemingly endless stream of boring candidates for the hotseat and pointless people twittering on about poor old Carol Vorderman. I was getting to the point where I just didn’t care… and then… something wonderful happened. Jeff Stelling is to be the new host of Channel 4 quiz show, Countdown!

Jeff Stelling, Small Screen Icon, here

This is truly exceptional news. For a while, I racked my brains trying to think of someone who could revive the glory years of Whitley on Countdown and every single time, I drew a blank. I could think of people with the right sense of humour… but not the graft ethic (a vice-versa). I spent all that time thinking about it when the answer was on my telly, every single Saturday afternoon (without fail).

Jeff Stelling is the ONLY man to thrive in the Countdown hotseat.

Stelling, like Whitely, is not afraid of a lame pun or two (anyone who has heard his jokes on Sky’s Soccer Saturday will know that) and it’s been well documented that Countdown is a gruelling job (in TV terms at least). Stelling is obviously not a man who minds doing long shifts on the box, with his current role seeing him live on screen for 6 hours at a time.

However, there will be those of you who are worried that this means the end for Jeff’s legendary ways on the football show… not so! Stelling is apparently staying put! This means, for fans of Stelling’s work, I can get my Jeff kicks almost every day now! What brilliant news! Susie in Dictionary Corner, Jeff at the helm… all we need now is someone cool to do the numbers (please, don’t let it be Myleene Klass).
