It's always bugged me that you couldn't ever buy some of the invented products in certain TV shows. Such is the popularity of The Simpsons, I've always wondered why no-one saw the potential goldmine of making Duff Beer, Krusy-O cereal and Buzz cola. Same goes for Newton and Ridley ale that they sell in the Rovers Return in Coronation Street... although, with the latter, that's about to change! ITV, now strapped for cash, is to launching a range of spin-off products, such as Newton & Ridley beer and Rovers Return pub grub... to be honest, I can't see it failing.

ITV is developing a wide range of products to mark the show's 50th anniversary in 2010, including Newton & Ridley beer, tea sets and clothing lines. Apparently, there may be a restaurant in the offing too. Amusingly, there will also be a range of underwear bearing the name of the Coronation Street factory, Underworld, as well. You should expect to see these things in the middle of next year.

Spin-offs are also planned from Emmerdale such as Woolpack-branded drinks, named after the show's pub, a gardening club and clothing ranges.
