I was planning on watching the results show on demand, so I could skip all of Bruce’s bits, but I’m glad I didn’t because then I would have missed the most exciting event of the week (you know, relatively) – Brendan Cole reverting to type! Everyone thought new Brendan was too good to be true and it’s already slipping. Oh yes.

Backstage after judging, Lisa apologised for not doing as well as she thought she had (which is a bit arseways, if you think about it) and Brendan said, gracelessly, “It’s just one of those things,” before stalking off and leaving Lisa clearly upset. I don’t blame him because the scores were ridiculously low, but he should support his partner. Of course, bad Brendan is much more fun, so it’s swings and roundabouts.
Jill Halfpenny was back to reprise her season two-winning jive with Darren. It’s such a fabulous routine, beautifully performed. I never actually get tired of watching it and, apparently, neither does anyone else since they got a standing ovation.
The men performed their merengue again, bless them, since this results show was filmed pretty much immediately after the live show (no wonder John Sergeant’s already lost a stone). Len said Mark was much improved, but after Len’s comments on Saturday night, I watched Mark and… well, his latin looks like being a disaster.
The show was rather poorly edited: one minute Flavia was being interviewed by Tess, while wearing a full-length tango frock, the next she was dancing to the Sugababes in what looked like a cheerleader’s uniform!
After just fifty minutes of waffle, it was results time!
And – surprise! – Jessie and Darren were through! That meant if Gillian went through, someone good was going home… I found myself muttering, “Come on, Lisa”. I didn’t know I was that bothered about her until that point. Thankfully she and Brendan were next through and she seemed to be sobbing, god love her. So Jodie and Ian and Gillian and Anton were in the bottom two.
I imagined the judges would save Jodie over Gillian (although I don’t think I would’ve lost any sleep whichever of them went home). Len said last week it was hard to choose between two such different dances, but this week they were both foxtrots and, having watched them next to each other, they had to save Jodie and Ian. And they did. Unanimously. And Anton looked… well, I’m not sure whether it was upset or angry. Still, it was the right result, although it’s a shame to lose Anton so early.
I think Gillian dodged a bullet there, because I expect her latin would have been horrific. And yet, hilarious.
