I’ve got to be honest, I think Lost in Austen (ITV1, Wednesday, 24 September, 9pm) is one of the best things on the box at the moment. This fact is still something that stuns me. When I look at the ingredients that make it – saccharine, occasionally empty headed, based around a period drama and quirky – that by rights, it’s so sweet and sticky that I should be vomiting caramel. However, even though from the outset, it looks rubbish, it’s actually brilliant, fun and very smart. I imagine I’m not the demographic, but I’m really enjoying it. So what’s this week’s final episode got in store for us?
This week, in the closer of this fine series, we see the loose ends being tied and trussed. Jane Bennet is lumbered with Mr Collins, when the book demands that she gallavants off with Bingley and Amanda Price is left scratching her head, wondering how to get everything back on the rails.
Before she gets everything sorted in her head, we thankfully get some fun and guffaws. One thing to look out for is Darcy reading about his fictional wet-shirt moment on the internet. That’ll raise a hoot. In short, this should be a great close to a hugely enjoyable series. I’m not sure it can be repeated (Lost in Hunter S. Thompson would do for me though!) so let’s enjoy it while we can.
