I love Prison Break. It really is a load of old rubbishy music video-ish over-styled fast-paced nonsense. But there's no getting around the fact that it has some great set-pieces and some exciting ideas. The show is a victim of its own success - or, as a friend of mine put it recently 'a victim of its own title'. To some extent you've just got to admire the way they've kept the thing up past one series with a name like that. Now we're onto the fourth series and the cat and mouse continues, in a slightly less enthralling way than series one's wonderful Shawshank Redemption style break-out, but it's still fun. I don't even mind that Phoebe's policeman boyfriend from Friends is in it playing the same character, leading us to wonder whether they're going for a subtle Friends/Prison Break crossover. I still like it. With one exception...

There are characters I'm not keen on. There are people I think should probably not have died (I still miss Haywire) and others I think should probably not have been resurrected. But my worst, my absolute Most Hated 2008 is this guy. I understand that 'Roland' is supposed to be annoying, but guys GIVE US A BREAK. He's the most annoying character since someone decided it'd be a good idea to give Blossom a neighbour called Six. And worse, much worse than that, he's a dreadful missed opportunity. Nerds on telly are sort of my favourite thing ever, but this guy's a dishonour to the good name of geek.

Leaving aside even the fact that his entire whizz-kid computer genius credentials seem to start and end with copying the information off an iPhone and the veritably autistic talent of... watching a status bar creep up in increments of 15%, he just refuses to speak properly. He spends all his time saying things like "last time something took this long to download it was A LOAD OF PORN!" and getting verbally kicked to death by the other characters who presumably don't have to act too hard when they express their irritation and frustration with this guy's terrible, terrible script.

Send him back to prison, I don't care anymore.
