While I was hunting around for Fringe news, I saw on Zap2It that production has stopped for two weeks on Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse. I’m taking special interest in this show not because it looks particularly special (although it does look fun) but because Eliza Dushku looks really nice. Is that a bad thing to say? To get back to being objective again, it is a Joss Whedon thing, so many many people will be interested in for all kinds of reasons. But anyway. A few days ago we discussed that fact that 24′s production had been halted to iron out a few creative kinks, and now Dollhouse has done the same.
Dollhouse is due to kick off with a pilot very soon, but Zap2It says that Josh himself has called a halt to proceedings. Why?
This is what the article says: “…Joss directed two of the three episodes already shot, and he has not had sufficient time to be in the writers room and tailor the upcoming scripts to his liking.”
By all accounts, Joss is taking on myriad roles in the production process and is keen to get this absolutely right. He asked Fox if it was ok to take a bit of time getting things right, and Fox said yes.
Although most headlines will trumpet the fact that production has halted, I think it’s a good thing – if the creator/writer/director of the thing feels it needs a bit of work, let the man do his job. At least he cares about his product. I await Dollhouse, and Eliza, with bated breath.
