Pick up a stone. Any stone will do. Now, throw it into the air and I bet it’ll land on something showing Top Gear. See, Top Gear isn’t so much popular, but rather – omnipotent. I say this because the BBC have announced that; “if you’re a Top Gear addict who needs a regular fix of Clarkson, Hammond and May then worry no more. From today you can get the best bits of the show any time of the day or night from a new Top Gear channel on YouTube!“. Can’t get your fix of Top Gear?! You must be living up a tree sunshine!
Do we really need an online showcase of The Best Bits of Top Gear? This new Youtube channel will show Jay Kay from Jamiroquai loving his cars… Simon Cowell driving really fast… the race between a Bugatti Veyron and a plane… I know all this because I’m at saturation point with Clarkson & Cohorts.
Sometimes I feel that Top Gear is actually being aired 24/7. If it’s not on BBC Two, then it’s being repeated on BBC Three. If there’s a gap in the Beeb showings, then it will almost certainly be on Dave. Now, with this new Youtube channel, it will actually be transmitting 24/7. Rumour has it that the BBC are going to install tiny projectors in newly born infant eye-sockets which show ‘Classic Top Gear Clips’ onto the backs of eyelids.
Simon Danker, Director, Digital Media, BBC Worldwide, said: “Top Gear has a massive audience across the globe so we thought it was time it had its own place on YouTube. The BBC Worldwide YouTube channel has already proven its value to users, having generated millions of views since its launch in March last year. We’re now expanding our portfolio of YouTube channels to reflect the massive online popularity of certain programme brands and to give fans of shows like Top Gear a dedicated destination on YouTube.”
But really… is anyone else getting a bit sick of it? I love the show, but boy…
