Headline says it all eh? Jonas Armstrong, the latest Robin Hood on our screens, is to bow out of series three in an explosive, nail-biting series finale. The third series of the show, which some love and most… well… don’t… returns next year seeing Robin older, grisled and more tough. Naturally, he’s hell bent on revenge following the tragic murder of Marian by Gisborne and the Sheriff’s failure to kill Prince John.

In the new series, The Sheriff is more unpredictable than ever with new threats looming over him and there’s the much anticipated arrival of Friar Tuck who joins the gang and becomes one of Robin’s closest allies.

Jonas Armstrong says: “Playing Robin Hood has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Over the last three years I have met some wonderful people and have only amazing memories to take with me. I’m grateful to the fans for their support and to all the cast and crew for their friendship and loyalty throughout, but the time has come to take on new challenges and look at new opportunities.”

Foz Allan, executive producer, Robin Hood adds: “Jonas has been a superb Robin Hood who updated the legend for a contemporary audience, reinvigorating it for a whole new generation. It has been a wonderful experience working with Jonas – we will miss him – and wish him all the success for his future. We cannot confirm the series climax nor can we guarantee who will survive and who won’t. You will have to watch it to see! But we can assure you Robin’s exit will be unmissable!”

Robin Hood series three is currently filming in Budapest and will return to BBC One next year with another 13 episodes.

Good. I was really looking forward to Robin Hood when it first came out, but stopped watching because I found Jonas Armstrong so annoying. I reckon it will get a lot better without him.

Jonas is an exemplary actor who has proven himself over the last 2 series (and I look forward to the 3rd). He has such a fantastic range and is always a pleasure to watch, whether his Robin is light hearted or emotional. He is one of the finest Irish actors and I look forward to seeing him in many exciting roles in the years to come. The very best of luck to him. The Armstrong Angels will always support him.

Hmm…first was that the “Sheriff to kill Prince John” or The King??? A true RH fan knows the answer the question.

Jonas your Armstrong Angels will miss you dearly as Robin Hood. You have been a delight to watch both on the BBC and BBC America.

We know you will be showing on the Big Screen next year too. Can’t wait!!!

We know that it is only up from here for you.

    Onwards and Upwards…

I’m sorry you found Jonas Armstrong so annoying; perhaps it was better that you stopped watching. He has plenty of fans (myself among them) who think his modern portrayal of Robin Hood was spot on; he’s a very talented actor who I predict will go on to great success.

personally, i enjoyed jonas armstrong as robin. i think he’s done a great job, certainly better than the writing team on the show has. and i don’t think the show will get any better without anyone in the role of robin! i think it’s pretty impossible to do robin hood without, you know, robin hood. good luck to jonas armstrong — and good luck to the BBC getting past the loss of him.

Okay, so there are many amongst us who do not like Jonas Armstrong or his portrayal of Robin Hood. That’s everybody’s prerogative but please be decent about it and keep your inept comments to yourself. You may find in the near future Jonas will exceed your tiny imaginations and your back-stabbing and become the one of the greatest stars of all time, and to me, one of his loyal, supporting fans, he will always be the greatest, but that’s my opinion and I’ll sit back and adore him on my own terms whether you like it or not.

While I have complained about the direction the writers took the BBC’s Robin Hood, I have nothing but admiration for the assemble of actors. I think Jonas Armstrong is a fantastic Robin Hood. He’s portrayed a complicated version of the legend–cheeky, compassionate, committed, and also flawed. Can we ask more of a hero?

You’re entitled to your opinion Matt but it’s one not shared by millions of RH fans. Jonas has truly been the best Robin we’ve seen on our screens. He made Robin human and showed us that everyone can have a Robin Hood inside them. Unless they have a really good gimmick lined up then I can’t see how it will go on without Jonas. Although I kind of hope it does because I think the naysayers will change their tune once they’ve watched the show without Jonas. I suspect he will then be heralded the best RH ever by everyone and people will be leaving comments about how it went downhill after he left. All irrelevant anyway because Jonas is moving on and his Armstrong Angels are moving on with him. Onwards & Upwards Jonas

Everyone has a Robin Hood inside them? Not the last time I looked.

I for one will miss Jonas Armstrong. His Robin Hood is the first one I have seen that has more charm than Errol Flynn. I will never forget his Robin Hood. It’s too bad the brits didn’t know a good thing when they had it. Soon he will be snapped up by James Cameron or somone who can appreciate the depth of his talent and sexiness.

Yeah well even if he was leaving I am truly upset about how they ended it. They could of made an awesome ending with him still doing his glory for the viewers to know he is still doing good … rather than seeing a hero die. I hate when tv shows kill off the main character. i dont have the heart to watch the rest of the episodes I missed. I hope Jonas Armstrong makes it big and I hope I can see him in a lot more tv shows or movies because Jonas you are a very talented actor.
