I don't know if I read it or wrote it, but I've been thinking for a while that the inevitable replacement for Terry Wogan on the coverage of The Eurovision Song Contest would either be Jonathan Ross or Graham Norton. I say this because these days, Eurovision is seen more like a comedy show than a music show. You need someone who can mercilessly tease. So with that, it looks like The Beeb are making eyes at Graham Norton for the job (according to The Currant Bun). Of course, Wogan looks like he's walking away from the show (read here for a refresher) and Norton would be a worthy replacement... bear with me...
The heats of Eurovision... or Song For Europe as it's known in the listings, will probably have Norton at the helm. A source is quoted as saying: "The BBC need an alternative and Graham is their man. He is currently talking to bosses about the Song For Europe show, which will run some time in March next year. Execs have big plans for the show and want to make it more glitzy, with one eye on X Factor. Terry may decide he still wants to do the commentary for the actual contest but if he doesn't, Graham will do that as well."
Now, for those of you smacking your head and sighing at the inclusion of Norton, just think about it for a second. Eurovision is the campest telly event of the year. It would be good to have someone reflect that. Also, Norton is a fan of throwaway pop (as well as other things I'm sure... I ain't casting aspersions) and will be great value for money once he starts to get weary in the gruelling commentary job.
If he gets the gig, I'm looking for bitchy asides and long, low groans as some votes go astray (or, to a 'neighbour'). I reckon Norton is the only real option for this job and, who knows, he might inject a bit of life into the thing?

That'll just about guarantee I never watch Eurovision again, if it's true.
