The slot in the listings that is known as ‘the Richard and Judy slot’ is of course, after they announced they were jumping ship, up for grabs. Rumours abounded that it would be filled with a Richard Hammond chatshow, a talking dog or a gameshow hosted by Terry Wogan. Okay, there was no talking dog.

No matter, Wogan has won the spot and is all set to give us Wogan’s Total Recall. Is it based on the sci-fi flick of the same name? Does it mean virtual trips to Mars and killing Sharon Stone? Of course not. It is, like most gameshows, a general knowledge quiz. Either way, bang goes my hope of it being called Wogan’s Lunchbox or Tel’s Tinkler.

So what’s the show all about. Well, competitors will have to answer questions and recall answers from earlier in the show in order to win cash prizes.

“We are doing a pilot run of Terry’s show for four weeks,” said a spokeswoman. “We’re still looking for other ideas but most will be for next year. We are still very committed to Paul O’Grady and will also run Come Dine With Me in daytime.”

Personally, as much as I like Terry Wogan, I’m not sure this will be a success as I think Wogan is far better value for money when he’s allowed to freewheel. That said, who would have ever thought that Deal or No Deal would take off?
