If you're a fan of either of these two shows (and if you're a fan of one, I'd imagine that there is a chance that you're a fan of both), then you will clearly have noticed - and no doubt been aggrieved by - the fact that Channel 4 had to stop broadcasting the latest series right in the middle. This wasn't their fault, of course; you should instead blame those whiny screenwriters actually wanting to be paid for their work.
Yes, like so many shows, Channel 4's big US imports Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives were greatly affected by the writers' strike, but worry not, these glossy comedy-dramas will return to our screens this Autumn, and will both pick up right where they left off. Also, as before, you'll be able to get a sneak preview on E4 a day or two before they are broadcast on the terrestrial channel.
If you're like me and can't remember what happened this morning let alone a few weeks ago, here's a quick reminder of what's going on in Wisteria Lane and the cut-throat world of fashion. Well, Desperate Housewives has been dominated by the tornado that ripped through the street, Susan is heavily pregnant, and Carlos and Gaby have a new tenant; and in Ugly Betty, Claire's trial approaches, and Betty is still pining for newbie Gio depsite going out with Harry. Oh, and you've got cameos from Lindsay Lohan and Naomi Campbell to, er, look forward to.

Although C4 stopped showing Desperate Housewives in the same place that they took a long break in the US due to the writers' strike, by the time C4 got around to showing them the remaining episodes had already aired in the US and were there and waiting. C4 opted not to find the room in the schedules to show them.
(Yes, I watch Desperate Housewives, enjoy it, and am a man, so sue me :D)
They stopped showing Desperate Housewives because of Big Brother, it said so after the last episode.. I mean, come on! Don't we have enough of that rubbish as it is without cancelling the actual good shows that make us want to watch channel 4!
