Now, I’m happy to admit that I have no idea what the significance of The Prisoner in British TV history is. Well, that’s not entirely true. I know that it’s a sci-fi series. Not like spaceships and stuff, but a psychological thriller type of affair portraying some sort of dystopia where a bloke is trapped in some weird place where he can’t get out of. That’s quite a lot really, but I don’t know too much else. Wait, wasn’t there some of big bubble or balloon in it? And didn’t Patrick whats-his-name star in it. Hmmm, it was a bit before my time. However… ITV is remaking The Prisoner for broadcast next year and it has announced all manner of top-level casting details.

Turns out, according to the show’s official fansite, Jim Caviezel – the man who played Jesus Christ in the Mel Gibson film The Passion Of Christ – will take on the role of number six. Quite a big name for ITV.
The site also suggests that Christopher Eccleston – a man who played Doctor Who not so long ago – was lined up to play him but that was just a rumour. Another rumour, and this is quite exciting, suggests that Sir Ian McKellen is linked to the project and lined up to play Number Six’s nemesis, Number Two.
Is that good news? I’m sure sci-fi fans and fans of the 1970s show will tell me. I’m sure you’re just glad it’s getting an airing – Sky One was attached to the project but pulled out like some big pulling out thing.
Look out for it next year.
