I don’t like to scaremonger, but it seems there’s plenty to be stressed about at the moment. The credit crunch is crunching, the price of food is rocketing, the oil’s running out, the earth’s warming up, and those scientists who are firing protons into each other might just bring about an early armageddon. Oh, and if you’re like me your footie team is currently fighting for promotion. (Donny Rovers, since you ask). It’s at times like this, then, that we need our TVs to act like a glorified screensaver: ladies and gentlemen, we need the Chelsea Flower Show.

I’m young, I like things that young people like. But I’ve gotta say, I do also rather like watching the RHS Chelsea Flower Show on the BBC. And I’m not even ashamed to say it – I mean, it’s lots of nice flowers and nice gardens. The *best* gardens, in fact. What sort of idiot doesn’t like nice flowers and nice gardens? And I’m just a sucker for blanket coverage of pretty much anything – the live element makes it feel all buzzy and exciting. Yes, even a show about gardens.

This year, coverage starts on Sunday at 5.05pm, BBC One, and there’s at least an hour’s worth of coverage every week night, with a daytime episode too. Of course Alan Titchmarsh is at the helm, and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen will be offering his own unique view, for what it’s worth.

Don’t think, just sit back – preferably with a cup of tea and some lovely cake – and enjoy the pretty gardens.
