Gok Wan is back with a new series of How to Look Good Naked (Channel 4, Tuesday, 8 April, 8pm) and he's about to irritate the teeth out of my face. Not in the way you think though. No, Gok is so annoying because he's great at his job, makes women feel great about themselves, is handsome, unusual... and probably raking it in too. That's much kinder than when I said our Gok was "a saucy woman trapped inside the body of a repressed gay man with the attitudes of a bricklayer." Still, either way you look at it, there's no-one quite like Mr Wan. Where these kinds of shows usually say "you're clearly not fit to leave the house so let us bully you into shape you bloody pig", How To Look Good Naked prefers the 'cracking legs darlin', you should show them off with this pencil skirt!' approach. Quite right too. So whose ego will be getting a tickle from Gok next week?

Tuesday, we'll meet Suzy and Jeannie who are 29 year old identical twins. However, they're not exactly alike as one a mother of three and the other is a rather successful businesswoman. This of course, brings very different hang-ups for Gok Wan to wrestle out of them. Again, where 10 Years Younger would chuck acid in their faces to burn off their skin, then bully them until they faded like Barry McGuigan in the LA heat, so they''ll agree to the most ridiculous suggestions, Gok has his own unique way of tackling things.

"The first thing we've got to do is to hug each other until we fart!"

Y'see, this is what is great about Gok. He's proven that kindness and fun is more helpful that mental abuse. I mean, we all knew that, but the spods who work in TV needed to find out as well. Gok doesn't want to send anyone spiraling into the pits of self improvement or plastic surgery. Nope. He prefers to bolster the confidence of women so that they feel beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. Maybe that's why he's trying to get them to hug the farts out of each other? Gok tells pretty much everyone to love what they've already got and, failing that, whack some heels on. You'll be strutting naked in front of hundreds of people down a catwalk in no time.

(With thanks to Ed Morgan for the Barry McGuigan pun)

Well said. He's the only one of these makeover gurus who doesn't just break people down to build them back up again.

He once told CQ that the 'must buy' of the season was Sambuca, because it made everything look better. Genius.
