The League of Gentleman lot are a bloody clever bunch. They’ve written books, they can act… they came up with The League of Gentleman ferchrissakes. That’s super smart all by itself. So, as each new project appears from these warped minds, we should take note because, chances are, it’s going to be interesting. So, with that in mind, star of LoG and Benidorm, Steve Pemberton, has spoken about his new comedy series which is (excellently) titled Psychoville.
Pemberton said that the show, which he has co-written with Reece Shearsmith, was originally meant to be a lighter, more jolly affair, but somehow, ended up being as dark and grimly funny as their work on The League of Gentlemen.
He told Metro: “I’ve written a new series with Reece Shearsmith called Psychoville which we’ll start later this year. We didn’t set out to make it [bleak and grotesque] but that’s how it’s ended up. TV producers say things go in cycles and we’d heard no one wanted any more dark comedy shows, so we tried to write something more upbeat. That didn’t last very long.”
I like darkly comic, so if you don’t mind, I’m going to start getting a little excited about this.
