It’s amazing what a handful of Bafta awards can do for a TV show. Gavin and Stacey has been quietly winning fans during its time on the box, and now it’s been officially ‘recognised’, everyone is falling over themselves to report on the hit BBC Three comedy. So with that, it’s time to tell you about Gavin and Stacey USA and a potential Christmas single…
BBC America is to air Gavin & Stacey in the US while NBC is considering making its own version. The BBC’s US channel announced yesterday that it plans to show the two original series of the BBC Three comedy from August. However, like most popular UK comedies that are exported, several reports are suggesting that NBC are lining up to make their own version of the show. It’s a safe bet that the show won’t be set in Wales, but rather, a US equivalent? Maine maybe?
In addition to Gavin and Stacey go international, Ruth Jones and Rob Brydon may release a Christmas single. The brilliant Jones, who plays Nessa, has admitted that she was tempted to release a version of the 1983 single ‘Islands In The Stream’, which she performs on the show with Brydon. She told The Sun: “The fans want us to release it as a Christmas single. There’s already a group on Facebook and I’m up for it.” The original version of the track was an American number one for country stars Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.
Like Ricky Gervais doing that dance, is Gavin and Stacey all set for overkill? I do hope not… but we should cherish the success.
