BBC Three are bringing more homegrown comedy our way… and it looks terrible. You may have seen trailers for Scallywagga doing the ’rounds, and first impressions make me think of The Catherine Tate Show (which is no praise at all). Worse still, I’ve discovered that one of the cast is from my home town of Horwich. I was all geared up to be loyal too. Anyway, here’s a clip. Due to air on Monday nights at the end of the month.

What a bitter little thing you sound. It would appear this person is lucky to have thus far avoided bumping into you in your home town with your big opinions and your even bigger head. Get a life and have a smile. What is your name? i’ll make sure i avoid you negative energy wherever i go. You’ve only seen two clips you judgmental old fart. Some people just hate i guess.
Love from someone who believes in giving new talent a chance xx
and its not on on monday nights at all, its tuesdays at half ten. what IS your job? just to be rubbish? congrats! you’re doing well x
I’ve seen two clips too, Dan, and they were both utterly rubbish (the hair straightening one would be better suited to CBBC than BBC Three).
If the rest of the show is so much better, you have to wonder why the BBC is using these clips to promote it.
That’s a fair enought comment Keris, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. It just felt like a rather scathing attack based on seeing only two scenes from this show. I have heard quite a lot about it and i believe the variety of sketches is quite varied in terms of who they appeal to. It would just be nicer if people got behind new programmes like this rather than judging them unfairly based upon very little. I for one welcome something new…at least this show will take up some time that bbc 3 would otherwise be poisoning our ears with re-runs of ‘two pints of lager…’
A little more positivity would not go amis…at least until you have seen it. Had you seen the series and then commented i would not have even posted a comment, but this just feels like a very bitter little environment. Smile chaps, you might like it x
I’m sure a review will follow, and Mr Gimmers is not writing the show off, merely pointing out that BBC3 have done a good job of making it look completely dire.
Which is his job.
Congratulations. You are officially stuck in your ways and clearly too ignorant to bother to watch one episode before writing it off as ‘terrible’. Why don’t you actually sit down, watch the programme and then call it ‘terrible’, which you inevitably will as stuck-in-their-ways people, unsurprisingly, never change their small-minded views.
Oh dear seems he was right, I found it hard to smile let alone laugh at this piece of crap. It seems like a poor rip off of the Catherine Tate show with slightly less appealing characters !
The show is horrible, very horrible, not funny in anyway, just plain bad. There is nothing at all remotely funny in it, the author here was being realistic not bitter – the adverts looked bad and the program was worse. What a waste of time.
“i believe the variety of sketches is quite varied in terms of who they appeal to”
there’s certainly something for everyone to hate in this show
“It would just be nicer if people got behind new programmes like this”
why? we’re already obliged to pay for this crap, I find it rather difficult to be supportive.
” You are officially stuck in your ways and clearly too ignorant to bother to watch one episode before writing it off as ‘terrible’”
From the trailers this program looked like it was going to be terrible, this was later confirmed once it aired, what’s the problem?
absolute shite, everything, the crap comedy the naff soundtrack, an annoying new stage hand who adores trends probably thought that getting all the big annoying pop/inde songs from the last year would appeal to the youthful target audiece, hopefully no one is dumb enough to be sucked in by it (i say it but i know theres some dumb shite who goes to music college and raves about the show over facebook while playing guitar badly on youtube) hopefully it’ll get pulled in the first couple of weeks, then i can sit back and smile contently knowing that this bland avergae formula exectuted sketch show has crashed and burned, letting bbc 3 know never to do it again
Utter, utter shite. This is why comedy should be vetted before it gets released in to the wild.
This should have been put down at birth along with those who came up with this diabolical cack.
BBC3, you should be ashamed.
This was just embarrassing to watch. I like sketch shows, but why are there so many awful ones? Did anyone really watch this, genuinely laugh, and think it was a good idea to commission it?
oh god i just saw another 10 mins of it, it cant just be me, but it is ridulously awful…the acting is poor at best, although not helped by the bad script and topped off with annoying music that dosnt add any comedy value at all… but its a good advert for sell out bands that need the extra money from the idiots that watch this kind of medioca lazy unoriginal horrid shit that plagues our tv screens…good news is i’ve seen a lot of hate mail about it (infact go to any realted site about it and thats all you’ll see!!) so at least there’ll be no 2nd series, and i’m hopeful it’ll get axed mid series.
i absolutly loved the first two episodes of this show. one of the best comedy’s on tv at the moment.i thought they were well written and the acting was brilliant. some of the scetches were slightly too long but the majority of them are great. i think next time you should give shows like this a chance before slagging them off.
This is the worst thing ive ever seen. Insultingly unfunny.
Are the BBC for real? I’m astounded to how bad this really is. I’ve seen 2 episodes now and the whole thing is embarrassing. I cringe at every sketch and just think comedy cannot get any worse. Very poor writing, delivery and acting, which is surprising as some of the cast aren’t too bad.
I agree with an earlier comment that the sketches would be better suited to CBBC than BBC3. I’d love to give something positive, but I can’t… utter garbage.
I can understand why people wouldn’t find Scallywagga funny. To be honest, I think some sketches are really immature and unfunny, where some require a bit to think about. I don’t think variety rules in this case, as some sketches only appeal to certain people, and so do the others, that I don’t think either type of person would watch a whole episode.
The important thing to remember here is that certain comedy only sticks with certain people. What makes one person laugh could make another cringe. I’m pretty sure this will be more of a cult sketch show, than something that sweeps the nation like Little Britain did. To be perfectly honest, I love Scallywagga. I think the ideas are so new and fresh and nothing like I’ve seen before, but they’re so obvious, it’s a wonder some haven’t ocurred to other writers. It’s just about the only sketch show I can tolerate, along with That Mitch & Webb Look.
The important thing is it’s a Kidult show. Aimed mainly at teenagers. Being one myself, I’m sure it’s achieved it’s goal. I don’t think it’ll find it’s way on more mainstream channels, as it’s not funny enough for adults to watch, or tame enough for little kids to watch. However; I’m perfectly fine with that, as long as it’s not cancelled altogether.
I’d just like to say that Kasey who wrote the above comment has wrote the most mature thing on here. They have looked at both sides of the argument and, whilst not completely championing Scallywagga, they have not made anyone who does like the show feel like a total idiot. Good on ya, Kasey.
Oi you people dissing this show, my baby girl was filmed for this series and she was treated like a star and she was only 11 weeks old. all the actors and actresses were really nice to me and my baby and the crew were wonderful. give the comedy a chance, or even better, get a sense of humour.
