Along with Torchwood, and fellow British-born comedies Little Britain and Gavin and Stacey, The Mighty Boosh has been one of BBC Three’s big success stories. As such, it is good to see that the channel is acknowledging that fact with a night dedicated to the Boosh’s creators, writers, and star performers, Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding, on Easter Saturday. Live links from the guys (in front of a studio audience who have been asked to dress up as Boosh characters) will introduce an hour-long documentary charting the Boosh from the stage, to TV and back again, and six of their favourite episodes of the show. Pop over the cut for a quick summary of each of them…
Party (Series 3): It’s Howard’s birthday, and Vince has arranged a big party for him. He has his first kiss, Lester Concrake meets a sticky end, and there’s a wonderful feel-good ending.
The Power Of The Crimp (Series 3): AKA The One Where Those Silly Little Songs Get A Name. Vince and Howard find that their style is being stolen and (joy!) Bob Fossil dances in his office once more.
The Nightmare Of Milky Joe (Series 2): Probably their most coherent work to date, this episode brings together so many great qualities – fantastic banter between Vince and Howard, a fantastic song, and a dark undertone. Sublime.
The Priest And The Beast (Series 2): The first, and so far only episode in which Vince and Howard barely feature, allows Julian and Noel to play Rudi and Spyder Dijon, who are searching for ‘the new sound’ for their band. Unavoidably it feels different, but there are some cracking one-liners in here, and a great soundtrack.
Tundra (Series 1): Vince and Howard’s journey to the Arctic tundra is a storyline that goes way back into Boosh history, but this TV version still feels fresh. Watch out for the Tundra Rap, and a fantastic scene where Howard tells Vince he loves him.
