You see that picture? That man gnawing on a remote control is the man they call Mof. Mof’s alright… he writes for us. More importantly, Mof likes a challenge. We like to do themed weeks here on the site from time to time and here’s another one… but this time it’s a bit different. You remember Morgan Spurlock’s Super Size Me? He had to eat McDonald’s food for a whole month, causing health problems, problems with mood swings and also problems with sexual performance. In the same vein, I’ve asked Mof to spend a whole week watching nothing but ITV1. From the moment he turns on the TV in the morning from the moment he turns it off at night he must watch nothing but ITV1.
Before you ask, this isn’t a pre-meditated attack on ITV1. The channel, I admit, must try a lot harder in programming terms and it has had its fair share of problems during the past year (and, more recently, the past few weeks), but this isn’t just an exercise in giving the channel a good kicking. There are lots of things to enjoy on the channel, but I’m interested in how watching one TV channel over a whole week affects someone’s state of mind, how it affects close relationships and whether watching one channel really is that bad. Although I’m sure watching ITV1 for a week will not affect sexual performance. A social experiment if you will. Throughout next week Mof will be dispatching daily diary entries, some reviews and some thoughts on how he’s coping. Let’s wish him luck…
