Phoo Action (BBC Three, Tuesday, 9pm) promises a lot; Car chases, kung-fu and comedy. The show is based on characters created by Jamie Hewlett (who brought us Tank Girl and is one of Gorillaz). The show is set in 2012 and London is in the grip of mutant criminals, The Freebies. Cue Terry Phoo, a hapless Buddhist kung-fu cop and his sidekick, an unruly teenage heroine called Whitey Action.
Having seen a trailer for this earlier in the week, I’m not sure what to make of it. It could be some good camp piss-takey fun a la Batfink, or it could be like that dreadful flick They Call Me Bruce (click here if you don’t know what I’m talking about). I’ll be tuning in, just in case it’s brilliant… but I’m not holding my breath (as I’d probably die over the weekend if I tried).
