Anyone in their right mind will be watching Life In Cold Blood (BBC One, Monday, 9pm) next week, but for those of you who jus' don't go for that animal magic, then you might want something a little... shallower. I think I've got just the thing for you in Dis/Connected (BBC Three, Monday, 9pm).
Now, even though it's my job to know stuff about TV, I've got absolutely no idea what Dis/Connected is. I've had a look online and there's virtually no details on it anywhere. I think someone said it was a yoof type drama thing, and therefore, it might be the BBCs attempt at doing a 'Skins'.
Monday's show (is it the first in the series? Has this been on telly for years? Does it even exist?) follows the complicated lives of a group of disconnected teenagers from different backgrounds. That's the official line anyway. Different backgrounds may mean 'eclectic bunch' or, more worryingly 'a bunch of stereotypes that would make the Spice Girls look like a Ken Loach film'.
These kidz are thrown together by the suicide of mutual friend Jenny, which sees a whole heap of soul searching and looking wistful. The characters in turn can be described as...
Sophie - The one who dropped her now dead pal when she got in with a hip crowd. Guilt issues.
Anthony - Working class and rough. From 'the wrong side of the tracks'. Called the ambulance when Jenny snuffed her lid.
Ben - Jenny's ex. Cheated on her. Presumably feels responsible for her death.
Emily - Partying type. Too busy being ripped to the tits to even notice that anyone was spiraling into black moods. Probably dismissed the whole thing as a bit Emo. Probably getting wasted to cover up a whole host of issues.
You'll note that my tone is presuming that this'll be rubbish. That's really the fault of Skins which has now sullied every single yoof show until the end of time. Possibly. Maybe this will re-address the balance. Maybe it'll be just as bad. We'll just have to tune in and see.

That is a bloody fantastic idea, and one which is a worrying prospect. I just "lol"ed in a public library.
Dis/connected is a drama based around 6 characters bought together by a suicide. None of the characters are stereotypes and they have bought in some fantastic actors to deal with a very real subject. It is nothing like Skins although the shallow minded of course will relate it to the teenage drama the only thing in common are the teenagers. Shine have dealt with the subject matter very sensitively and it saddens me that you refer to Jenny as snuffing it. Have you been reading the papers recently? Maybe a little respect wouldn't go amiss. The drama has been postponed to a later date out of respect to the 17 families who are going through hell at the moment. It is however a fantastic watch and will be a great shame if it is not made into a series.

For starters i am not a fan of Skins! it is over rated and the same thing happens every episode, Sex, Drugs and Partying. You may think i am a loner due to my opinions, but i am not, i am just not amused by the same way as a pre-puebesant teenager. This programme however was more enjoyable, it was an insightful interpritation of how different types of people have different methods of copeing with pain and is in every way unique for each person. It also made you think of what could be happening in different types of peoples lives and the complexitiy of our our modern day live.
It would be a crime to not make this into a series as it was an amazing programme to watch, i hope to watch it again soon.

I hadn't heard about the program until I stumbled upon the late night repeat after Monday's airing but I found it to be a pleasant surprise.
I initially watched because from what I saw from the listings it seemed like the BBC's attempt at reaching the 'yoofs' in much the same way as Skins. However what I ended up watching provided so much more, it didn't present the characters as one dimensional clichés trying to fill every ddemographic and perpetuate a shallow view of the modern teenager's life.
Although the temptation to replicate the 'Sex, Drugs and Partying' of Skins had obviously crept in, it wasn't all of the program's substance, and unlike Skins where that is the bread and butter of the program this element provided some light relief from a more dour theme. Why the BBC decided to postpone the airing because of the suicides in Wales is beyond me as the way the topic is handled throughout the program was tasteful(barring one rather pointless sex scene at a funeral) and provided a really thought provoking insight to the subject of teenage suicide.
The acting was patchy at times but it was forgivable. However the camera-work could not be forgiven, in their attempt to make the drama seem edgty and fast-paced the shaky camerawork and fast pans began to grate on my nerves and by the end I was wondering if some of the cameramen had Alzheimer's.
I would love to see the program made into a full series as it provides a quality alternative to the shallow nature of Skins and the characters obviously provide room for some really interesting developments.
can anyone tell me where i can watch dis/connected online???
