TV Review: Relocation, Relocation, Channel 4, Wednesday 9 January, 8.00pm

relocation1.jpgI watch quite a lot of TV (well, I would, wouldn’t I?), but I very rarely concentrate fully. I’m usually doing something else at the same time – surfing the net, flicking through a magazine, talking on the phone, tidying up – but for some reason property shows hold my attention completely.

So much so that I often completely lose sense of where I am while I’m watching. Property Ladder, Grand Designs, even Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. But my absolute favourite is Location, Location, Location. Or Relocation, Relocation, as it seems to have been rebranded.

The first in the new series features Rosie and Andy, who want a house with a “soul” in Devon for £315,000. They’re also buying Andy’s brother a £150,000 investment flat in Bristol. The first half of the show concentrates on Devon. Rosie gets excited, Andy’s more practical. They choose location over property size. We’ve seen it many many times before, but that’s not important.

The USP of this show is the relationship between Phil and Kirstie, who clearly get on famously. And the cheesy voiceover – forced banter between the two – only adds to its charm.

The house Andy and Rosie want in Devon is snapped up by someone else, so they head over to Bristol for the investment property. They see a tiny central flat, a hideous house and a flash new development. They like the first, they offer, it’s accepted and that’s that.

Back to Devon where Kirstie has apparently found another house in the village they liked and they love it and offer immediately. On returning to visit Andy and Rosie in Devon, Phil and Kirstie exclaim over the house and comment that they didn’t actually see it. Eh? I thought that was the whole point of the show? You just can’t trust the telly, can you? I wonder if Rosie and Andy are even real. They could be actors for all we know.

Still, who cares. An hour of untaxing, entertaining chill-out TV on a cold, wet Wednesday evening. I’m not complaining.

I love this show! I watched it last night over a cheese toastie. It was pretty much one of the best moments of my day.

For someone who says it’s their favourite show – you sure seem to want to pick holes in it. As you said the reason it’s so good is the chemistry between the presenters and adds to the charm, so seems harsh to then say it’s cheesy.
Phil did say they had only seen the details of the house the couple bought. And explained it. It’s a shame I suppose the presenters don’t or can’t show them every house, but it doesn’t spoil the show. Maybe they’re with other househunters far away?
It’s not been rebranded – Relocation Relocation is a different programme to Location Location Location. Location Location Location is one area where two sets of people are looking for a new home where they already live. Relocation Relocation is for people who want to move somewhere new and buy two places. Hence RElocation.
    And actors? Get real.
It’s a good show and popular for a reason – you say yourself it’s your favourite so when you say, I’m not complaining’…maybe it shouldn’t be after a list of complaints?

relocation relocation is my favorite programme;or was. so im very sad; that the proramme has changed; it used to be enjoyable .
but now its gone stupid.you get these overpaid; self righteous self opinionated supposed to be intelligent people.a house is just what it is a house;a home is what you turn it in too.still you dont keed me to tell you that.
are you struggling to find coulpes for your programme?
please find normal couples that have got a bit of sence and apprecitae what you are doing for them; its not making good viewing. i like to watch a programme to relax and enjoy. not to get annoyed.
