Now, I think I've seen this programme before, and if I'm correct in my assumption, everyone really ought to tune in for How Pop Songs Work (BBC Four, Wednesday, 10pm). As part of the Beeb's Pop Britannia season, this wonderful celebration of pop and rock sees conductor Charles Hazlewood looking at the magic and skill that goes into a pop masterpiece.
Someone pulling apart a song to look at the mechanics sounds cold and joyless... but that could be further from the truth. Hazlewood get down with a tune and looks at how influences make a record, and shape the use of colour and chords to shade a song, making it special and alive. Of course, The Beatles feature heavily (well, they do have quite a few masterpieces in their canon) as well as various talking heads sharing their secrets. Of course, this won't give you the Frostie's secret formula of how to make a classic, but it will stimulate your brain and make you understand how a great track works compared to a decidedly average one. Brilliant.
