I know as well as anyone, how tricky the TV listings can be. You're faced with far too much information... and everyone tells you that this show is a highlight... and this show is a must-see... well scrap all that. The only people worth trusting are right here... and with that cocky statement, here's the pick of the weekend's TV shows.
Friday - Brasil Brasil, BBC Four, 9pm
If you're set in your ways, you'll be watching what you always watch on a Friday tonight. That means a toss up between the dreadful 'reality' of I'm a Celebrity... (just how real is a bunch of failed slebs lost in the jungle? Does this go on all the time and I don't know about it?) or the pomp of The Tudors. For those a little more adventurous, you NEED to tune into the fabulous Brasil, Brasil. Showing the musical link from Africa to Rio, this fascinating doc' shows the birth of bossa nova. The history of Brazil alone is enthralling enough... but it's in the music where the real entertainment begins. Guaranteed are excellent archive performances (and some new ones too) and brilliant images of the Rio carnival... and next week... one of the most incredible (and unknown) stories in rock'n'roll... the story of Tropicália. Miss it and truly miss out.

Saturday - The Omid Djalili Show, BBC One, 9.40pm
Last week, I was surprised how much I enjoyed Omid Djalili's show. A mixture of so-so sketches and some cracking stand-up. Omid tackles the differences in various cultures without ever turning it into a political rant'n'rave. He a fun bloke... and very talented. Of course, many comics use up their best material in first episodes... so this one may be a little weaker. Should still be a good laugh though.
Sunday - Help!, BBC Four, 7pm
Its wacky and zany and clearly under the fog of too many exotic rollies... but then it's The Beatles... what do you expect? John, George, Paul and Ringo run from the swinging streets of London to swiss mountain tops to the beaches of the Bahamas... it's daft... it's sometimes very odd... but it's worth your entrance fee to see the Fab Four belt out Ticket to Ride and other hits. If you dig the TV series of The Monkees, then this is going to knock you for six... and if you get bored, you can always flick over to Top Gear half way through.
One To Avoid - Comedy Showcase: Kevin Bishop Sketch, Channel 4, Friday, 10.30pm
Have you seen Star Stories? It's one of that lot. This will make you cry... and it won't be tears of laughter.
