So, week two of Boosh series three: any improvement on the so-so and frankly disturbing Eels? Absolutely. Watching a new episode of The Mighty Boosh after waiting nearly two years is still a bit of a disconcerting experience for me - not knowing the plot, the quotes, the songs; it all freaks me out a little bit, and I don't think a single episode of this series, no matter how brilliant, will instantly become my favourite.
But I have a feeling that this, Journey To The Centre Of The Punk, may quickly shoot up the charts. There were loads of laugh out loud moments, and it felt series-one-old-skool while simultaneously being thoroughly new-skool - I mean, did you see those special effects?! They actually spent some money on this!
This week, for once, it was Howard who had to do the saving. Vince decides that he's no longer electro, or indie, or goth, or a mod, but a punk. Thankfully, he doesn't *quite* fit in, and that seems right to me; Vince is meant to be a chancer, and out of his depth, just as much as Howard. Ok, not nearly as much as Howard, but he's still not meant to be as cool as he thinks. In order to impress his new punk mates he bites into Howard's rare jazz record (but only after protesting that "it is quite expensive") and becomes infected by the Jazz Beast. There's only one thing to be done: Howard must be shrunk down and injected into Vince's bloodstream to fight the virus. Of course.
The sequence inside Vince's body was genuinely impressive and genuinely innovative. When was the last time you saw something completely new, and which you just know could only have been made a certain set of people, who's minds simply don't work like ours? Especially brilliant was the scene in Vince's brain. It is inhabited by a single brain cell (bless), who is dressed head to toe in a glitterball catsuit, and constantly flicks through channel upon channel of Vince in different guises on a retro TV. Take a look into Howard's brain and there'll be frustration and intelligence and jazz and dreams of Mrs. Gideon; Vince's brain, on the other hand, is all about Vince.
The resolution to the plot was a little rushed (you have to agree with Noel and Julian when they say that their ideas would probably be best served by a feature film) and it would have been nice to have a song other than the punk one, but, really, it's churlish to complain about a half-hour's worth of television that's this original.

As always, fantastic review!
Thanks Anna.
God, I love the Boosh!
This mini Hollywood film, complete with the bullying scene, the chase scene, a SiFi mission, outlandish special effects, a blind mentor, a hot secretary, some trully touching heroic moments from underdog Moon, a "you can't kill me" scene and a stupid joke to end it all, was just perfectly done!
Plus, Howard giving himself a chinese burn was both genuinely heart-wrenching AND hilarious.
Pure genius!
You have come down on all the last 3 episodes, all among the top 5 ever, Eels & Party are decent episodes however we just came off the back of the best 3-episode run in Mighty Boosh history, there is a reason why i rarely comment and you only review, you've can't critic cause you don't create, why don't you just say that Noel's best stand-up peroformance was on home video in 1982.
You're the sort of whining brit (the norm, not a stereo-type) who will hate Heath Ledger as Joker, diss Indiana Jones 4, loath The Mighty Pantomime (TMB movie), slam Flight of the Conchords in Series 2, say that John Safran is a Sacha Baron Cohen wanna (he's documentaries are actually comedicially building and sutle) and frankly you proably don't see that Mighty Boosh Series 2 was better even with 2 episodes less than Series 1(just seen Julian's recent interview), South Park are on top of the satire relm and that if you wanna whine, why not Family Guy which is one of few bad comedies still going (goodbye American Day, King of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond).
If You wanna be a writer, don't write
if you wanna write, be a writer
Understand.
