ewan_charley.jpgWhile the rest of you were praying and cleansing yourself of your sins at church last night, I was sitting at home, excitedly watching Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman's second installment of Long Way Down. While Mof was pretty underwhelmed with it last week, I have to say that I was thoroughly and completely whelmed for the entire hour. (And perhaps slightly overwhelmed when Ewan decided to do part of his video diary from the shower. Naked.)

The beginning of this episode shows the boys kissing their wives and families goodbye, heading out of London and the UK, where they will then ride through France and Italy and then catch a ferry to Tunisia and "step foot on African soil". Immediately you can sense how much pressure the entire Road Team is under to makes sure they hit the right mileage each day. But, despite the stress, they thankfully still have time to do things like video tape Charley farting with a lighter held up to his ass, and Ewan McGregor showering. NAKED.

At the campsites they stayed at in France and Italy, they were graciously cooked for by star-struck Dutch and Italian women who kissed their cheeks and feed them ridiculous amounts of pasta and sausage. However, things became less glamorous as tensions started to rise on the ferry from Trapani, Italy, where they were burdened by yet more, "Hey, in Africa - you could DIE!" security business, as well as the fact that the American members of the Road Team were probably not going to be able to get their Libyan visas in time, if at all. (Sad times.)

When they finally did get into Tunisia there were great montages of them eating lamb, and freaking out because they were OMG REALLY IN AFRICA! Despite Charley and Ewan's antics, one of the best parts of the show is the scenery, and appreciating the contrast between places like Libya and Italy, and observing that while they're both very different, they are both beautiful. The episode ends with the crew being stuck in a sandstorm in the middle of the night, and squinting into their cameras whilst getting pelted in the face with sand and wind. Will the team get so much sand in their cracks they won't be able to sit down on their bikes? Will they be able to see the next day? THE SUSPENSE IS KILLING ME.

If you want to hop on the bandwagon and watch the rest of Ewan and Charley's adventures on The Long Way Down, you can catch up on the past two episodes on The BBC's YouTube page, and read up on what you've missed on the official Long Way Down website. If you're looking for hardcore adventure, I feel like it's still building up to it's most exciting moments, but it's definitely a fascinating story to watch, even if you're not gripping your seat in suspense, like me.

Long Way Down is on every Sunday until December 2, on BBC Two at 9pm.
