What To Watch This Weekend

By mofgimmers on October 26th, 2007 1 comment

remoteremote.gifIt’s time for me to trawl through the listings once more in an attempt to avoid you accidentally watching guff on the gogglebox! Feel free to share your weekend picks in the comments! Have a cracking weekend y’all!

Friday – Comedy Showcase: The Eejits, Channel 4, 10.30pm

Whilst everyone goes all dippy about The Armstrong and Miller Show (BBC One, 9.30pm), those in the know are getting all excited about The Eejits. Why? The Eejits is brought to us by the funny one behind Father Ted… the genius that is Arthur Mathews. Anyone who enjoyed Hippies, or who has read Mathews incredible Well Remembered Days will be panting with excitement at the prospect of an Irish pub band by the name of E-Z Feelin who are hoping to hit the big-time when a former U2 roadie gives them some of the stars’ old equipment. Expect preposterous turns of fortune, silliness and superbly smart gags. Pick of the weekend.

Read over for the rest of the weekend’s shows…

Saturday – Have I Got a Little Bit More News for You, BBC Two, 10.10pm

Saturday is a bit of a brown trout for telly, with only an extended version of Friday’s Have I Got News for You looking decent. Of course, you already know it’s a topical news quiz with Paul Merton and Ian Hislop simultaneously making each other laugh and sniping at each other. This week, the guest host is Omid Djalili and guest panelists Stewart Lee and Julian Fellowes.

Sunday – Top Gear, BBC Two, 8pm

Why on Earth do I like Top Gear? It’s a motoring magazine show which features road tests and news about over priced cars for God’s sake. Still, I find myself watching it with alarming regularity, so it must be good. Sunday’s show features the ungainly Jeremy Clarkson driving around in the smallest car ever made and a Bugatti having a race against the RAF’s Typhoon jet fighter. Ronnie Wood is the Star In A Reasonably Priced Car. Daft, oafish and entertaining.

One To Avoid – TV’s Naughtiest Blunders, ITV1, Sunday, 11.20pm

OOOH! Titter! A regional news bloke said “bugger”. Sadly, this show always fails to live up to the promise of real naughtiness. Where is the clips of famous people filling their pants to poodom after being attacked by an owl? Where are the outtakes of Trevor McDonald calling one of his lackeys a dick? Nope, we’ll have to put up with Anthea Turner laughing as she says “shit”. An awful tawdry programme that is to naughtiness what a cow’s ear tag is to a butcher.
