Like many people, I’ve come to The Mighty Boosh through the DVDs, and so am *very* excited to finally be able to sit down infront of the telly and see a brand new episode, the very first time it airs. The cultish love of The Mighty Boosh means it isn’t like other current comedy shows – writer/stars Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding are more akin to the lead singer and guitarist of some uber-cool north London indie band than, say, Mitchell and Webb. As such, there’s a certain buzz about the return of the show, which will air on BBC Three next month.
The second series saw Howard (Barratt) and Vince (Fielding) move out of the zoo that had been their home both on Radio 4 and the first TV series, and into a fabulous retro flat. This time they’re working at the Nabootique – a second hand store run by shaman Naboo (Mike Fielding, Noel’s brother) which is really a front “for his shady interplanetary Shaman business.”
They may have gone back to a more traditional setting (four candles and a dead parrot anyone?) but looking at the episode summaries, this series will be as weird as ever – possibly more so. Howard is shrunk down and injected into Vince’s bloodstream to save him from infection by the Jazz Beast, Vince becomes friends with the Crack Fox, and Howard battles with Sammy The Crab to get a role with famous director Jurgen Harbourmaster. Just another day at the office, then.
Fans will be gald to see that not only is the Hitcher back (Noel seems to love playing him so much that that was probably to be expected) but shamans Saboo (Richard Ayoade) and Tony Harrison – two of the most successful new characters from the second series – will also be returning. As a bit of an obsessive myself, I’ve got my own hopes and expectations for the series. Series two might have been more adventurous than the first, but that meant that the rambling, free-flowing dialogues between Howard and Vince were less in evidence – hopefully a more fixed setting will mean that we get a bit of this back.

Possibly one of the most overrated, unfunny acts I’ve yet to witness. The definition of Marmite Comedy I think…love it or hate it.
Only Mitchell and Webb approach their level of unfunniness.
Why are these people still saturating our screens and yet shows like Green Wing, Blackadder and League of Gentlemen are not?
Thank gawd for Peter Serafinowicz…
>sigh<….

I am a huge fan of the show and have followed it implicitly. I don’t agree that this show is unfunny, but i know plenty of people who hate it so i guess it is like the marmite effect.
The third series, to me, was rather disappointing. The first series was brilliant, it was catchy and something we haven’t seen in a long time with regards to comedy. The second series was good, however not so much as the first. I believe it was good in it’s own right but compared to the first, there isn’t much comparison. The third series was ok, not as good as the other two but i still enjoyed it.
I think there has been too much money put into it to be honest, with the first series it was shabby and one of the reasons why it worked so well. Now it has too much expense put into it. Even the Hitcher was poor in the third series, the make-up was too good, where as the Hitcher in the first almost didn’t work.
Anyways i could ramble all day about the boosh. Will be seeing them live in September, just hope it will be as good as their tours previously.
