As Mof has informed us with his stab at pirate language, today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Sadly from a TV perspective there are very few pirates of note that have pillaged and plundered on our screens over the years, with most distracted by the allure of the silver screen. The most memorable pirate to sail the seven seas of TV (I really am trying here) was Captain Pugwash and his crew including Tom the Cabin Boy and Pirate Willy. Now best remembered for sexual innuendoes, the theme tune and phrases such as “coddling catfish!” and “lolloping landlubbers!” the seminal cartoon is sent up in this sketch from David Mitchell and Robert Webb. Shiver me timbers (and all that jazz.)
