I’m born again! At last! There is another comedy on the box that I can get my teeth into and giggle myself snotward! Apart from the laughs, I get to watch characters slowly unfurl and reveal themselves with a beautiful mix of tragedy and pathos (that’s twice I’ve used that word today!) That show is Steve Coogan’s Saxondale (BBC2, Thursday, 9.30pm).
Saxondale is a show that the RadioTimes calls “erratically charming”, which is probably fair. On the strength of last weeks episode, it would appear that the erratic element has subsided in favour of more depth and humour. However, this being Coogan, you never know how things will go. That said, Saxondale promises to be one of the great unsung comedies on the box if it keeps up the pace (which I think it will). Things to look out for on Thursday? Tommy and Raymond meet a man in the woods and convince him not to commit suicide…
