Life on Mars might be over here in the UK, but on the other side of the Atlantic they are revving up to enjoy the delights of the time-travel cop show. Plans for the US remake are currently underway, but the casting folk have been unable to snag their preferred choices: John Simm and Philip Glenister. Yes, the Brit actors have declined to reprise their roles as Sam Tyler and Gene Hunt, despite the remake coming courtesy of Ally McBeal and Boston Legal creator David E. Kelley.
Simm explains: “They wanted us to have US accents. But I don’t know why they have to remake everything. Anyway, they have already got their own version of our show — Starsky & Hutch.” Well not quite, I don’t know that a show that travels back to the ‘70s is the same as one made during the ‘70s, but you’ve got to admire his conviction. There are too many remakes in entertainment at the moment, and I fear that Hunt’s infamous potty-mouth might be watered down for US audiences.
