Now, it pains TVScoop to say it (ok, it pains *me* to say it,) but eventually the huge - and beautiful - talent that is David Tennant will have to leave Doctor Who. I know, book the therapy sessions now, people. And because he's the sort of actor, just like Christopher Ecclestone before him, that likes to keep on keeping on, he's probably going to leave relatively soon. Which means we'll need an eleventh Doctor... and The Sun think they've got that man - James Nesbitt.
What's your gut reaction, then? Two questions: does the rumour ring true, and if it were to come off, what would you think? Well, we know how happy the Doctor Who team are to keep things in the family - Tennant worked with Russell T Davies on Casanova, for example - and Nesbitt has just been seen in Jekyll, written by none other than Steven Moffat (the Blitz two-parter, Girl In The Fireplace and Blink). So that works. And would he be any good? Well, we know he can do comedy, drama, dark, light, manic... pretty much everything you need to be a Doctor, you might say. Watch this space, but it wouldn't surprise me if this turned out to be true. [via DS]
UPDATE! Steven Moffat has quashed this rumour at Outpost Gallifrey, stating: "The James Nesbitt story is a total fabrication. Made up. A fantasy. Just a guy sitting at a desk and just inventing stuff. I wasn't going to say anything, but I'm getting embarrassed for the deeply wonderful Jimmy Nesbitt. So tell everyone please, cos it's getting very silly." So when I said this was likely, I was joking, clearly...

Gargh, I just Do Not Know how to feel about this.
My pal Chrissie texted me this morning - I suspect she'd read the blogs earlier than me - and I just feel...
I don't know.
I think it's mostly the numbing thought that we're going to lose our current Doctor, because I feel this could definitely be a(nother) case of that leaky sieve (aka BBC Wales) speaking to The Sun and being right. And part of me feels its a great idea, and part of me is already in therapy at the thought...
I like this idea, James Nesbitt is a fanastic actor and can play any part, so it will be interesting to see what his take on the Doctor is.
If it's true - and as I said, my betting is that it probably is - then it's a decent, if rather unexciting choice. I'm not screaming "nooooooooo!!!" but I'm not exactly jumping for joy either. In internet terms, my reaction lies about halfway between 'meh' and 'squee'!

Steven Moffat has shot this down.
This guy would be a better choice

Re: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0130536/
James Callis, of Battlestar Galactica, is like 4 feet tall. I think the Doctor should at least be able to look his sidekick in the eye.
"Steven Moffat has shot this down."
Very true - http://www.gallifreyone.com/news.php?id=seriesnews
