With Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip just around the corner (watch out for it on Channel 4), creator Aaron ‘West Wing’ Sorkin has already started to apologise for the show’s rank failure and very quick demise. Unfortunately the axing happened after C4 bought it, and many tipped it to be the hot new thing in TV land.
It stars Friends person Matthew Perry in a show that tries to delve behind the backstage politics, romances and back-stabbing on a late-night comedy sketch show. Sorkin, rather honestly and ruefully, said in this story: “There are only two possible reasons for Studio 60 failing — it was either my fault or it was just one of those things. On some shows, you can make mistakes and still survive. But with this one, I made too many mistakes for it to survive.” We can all judge for ourselves very soon…
