Aaron Sorkin blames himself for Studio 60's failure

With Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip just around the corner (watch out for it on Channel 4), creator Aaron 'West Wing' Sorkin has already started to apologise for the show's rank failure and very quick demise. Unfortunately the axing happened after C4 bought it, and many tipped it to be the hot new thing in TV land.

It stars Friends person Matthew Perry in a show that tries to delve behind the backstage politics, romances and back-stabbing on a late-night comedy sketch show. Sorkin, rather honestly and ruefully, said in this story: "There are only two possible reasons for Studio 60 failing — it was either my fault or it was just one of those things. On some shows, you can make mistakes and still survive. But with this one, I made too many mistakes for it to survive." We can all judge for ourselves very soon...

It's ridiculous that this show was cancelled. It wasn't quite 'The West Wing', but the acting (Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford in particular), production and characters are all first rate. It's just a bit of a shame that the US TV industry is so cut throat that it couldn't survive the bad numbers (potentially due to the US Tivo audience watching it time slipped and thus not contributing to the Nielsen TV ratings)...

Great show though. Check it out, and don't be too put off if it slows a little around episodes 4-6...

I adored this show, I'm still mad about it getting cancelled. So snarky! So delicious!

I love studio 60! It was a show that I set my clock to! From the beginning those I talked to about the show said they loved it but it was to "smart"... WHAT EVER! The show kept you on your toes! It's so hard to find a cast that meshes so well together and the dialog is fast paced!.... a group like the Friends cast... Anyway! i just purchased the whole season on iTunes and watched the whole thing! I STILL LOVE THIS show! It's one that I will still laugh at over and over! NBC was dunb to let it go!
