dw_companion.jpgToday's Daily Mirror contains a few Season Four spoilers for Doctor Who fans. Follow that link for the whole article, or click through below for the edited highlights (like who the new season's companion is going to be, and how many of them, and - finally - when David Tennant has decided to leave), or if you don't want to know anything you could just close your eyes, stick your fingers in your ears and spin three times widdershins and hope you can stay away from all sources of news for the next nine months.

A New Companion
By the start of the fourth series, Martha has had enough of being treated like a spare part by the Doctor and to top it all, he takes another traveller into the TARDIS. This prompts her to leave the ship.

So it's the end for Martha?
Not really. According to the Mirror she's going to "flit in and out" of the show and even appear in Torchwood (poor girl).

So who's this new companion then?
The Beeb haven't even given away whether the new companion is male or female. All they'll say is that it's "a major addition to the cast."

What about Kylie?
The article confirms that Kylie Minogue will be appearing in the Christmas special - and Freema won't.

And Russell T Davies?
Yes, writer/producer RTD, who was the tectonic force behind the Doctor Who modern revival, is leaving the show to work on other projects.

What about the Doctor?
Set to regenerate at the end of the fourth series too, it seems, as David Tennant has finally admitted that's when he's leaving. But before you start moaning, you should remember that three years was pretty much standard in days gone by. Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee both stayed for three years, only it probably seemed like longer because there were more episodes in their time. It's only stalwarts like Tom Baker who stuck around for so long it made everyone believe long-lived Doctors were the norm.

Is this really the end for Doctor Who?
Quite the opposite apparently. Drama queen (and we mean that in the most professional sense) Jane Tranter has big plans, insisting:"One thing is certain, Doctor Who will be around on BBC1 for years to come."

so now that RTD is going can we finally be assured to getting back to the roots and the pertwee and earlyer story lines with new scripts that actually link into these classics, we want and need far more U.N.I.T inspired and linked storys.

hell , did everyone forget about ramana story line from the tom baker days ,were she was left in another demension that can be got back to and from thee again..., so there is other time lord still potentially alive even before the master came back.

what about all the daleks frozen on the ice planet.., and many more links that RTD forgot about.

Well, yeah. All this "last of the Time Lords" bollocks is a bit thin anyway isn't it? He's a time traveller FFS - he could just go back to before the war...

i agree, infact it might be a very nice thing if the next writers/producers were to take the lost/erased episodes of long ago, and re-create them for the future.
