joy.jpgSorry I’m a day late with this, but we couldn’t let the this episode of one of our favourite series go by without a word or two. Like Mof, I’m a massive fan of this show – not only is it funny, which we’d kind of hope for as standard from a comedy (but which we by no means always get!), but it’s sweet, weird, brilliantly scripted and performed, and fans of Kevin Smith’s work, such as Clerks, can play spot the reference. And Jason Lee is just *too* cool in this; like a cross between Morgan Spurlock and Dave Grohl. That’s cool.

This week focused on Earl’s ex-wife Joy – I can imagine that the producers of the show realised that she’s the favourite character for a lot of their viewers, and with damn good reason.

After buying a $3000 entertainment system, and ruining it by watching it outside in the rain (it wouldn’t fit through the door…) Joy couldn’t get a refund, and so thought she’d get her money back by stealing one of the company’s trucks – as you do. She didn’t realise, however, that there was an employee in the back, and as Earl had ‘never took Joy’s side’ on his list, he decided to help her out. But maybe karma didn’t approve of the illegal act, because Joy ended up behind bars… but not for long, you’d imagine.

“The List” took a back seat in this episode, and I think it’s going to be less of a feature in this series, as the show looks to focusing on the whole ensemble of characters, rather than just Earl. There’s no reason why this shouldn’t work, and if we were worried that the high standard may have dropped from last season, we needn’t have done so. Joy and Randy still get the best lines (my only complaint was that there wasn’t enough Randy in this episode), the soundtrack is still the best on TV, and Earl and Crabman are still lovable. Let’s just hear more of Earl’s ‘gay Kermit The Frog’ British accent… [annawaits]
