Set The Video: Doctor Who - The Last of the Time Lords, BBC One, Saturday 30 June, 7.05pm

doctor_who_lastofthetimelords.jpgThis may very well be the most pointless "Set The Video" post I've ever done. I mean honestly, is there anyone in the country who *doesn't* know the season finale of Doctor Who is upon us? But I'm steaming ahead anyway for three perfectly valid reasons...

1. The scheduling of Doctor Who has bounced around so much this series there's a danger you might miss a bit if you hadn't spotted that this one starts ten minutes earlier than it has for the last two weeks. And if you believe the rumours about this last episode, you won't want to miss a *single* minute, let alone ten.

2. Since this is the last Doctor Who until Christmas, I'll take any excuse to write about it as long, and as often, as possible.

3. I won't be able to watch until tomorrow, so it's for my own benefit to make sure I don't forget.

I might have made the last one up.

Season finales have been blockbuster events for the last two series and, for me, the Series 2 ending was much bigger and better than the first, so along with every other fan in the UK and across the world I have great hopes that tonight's will be even blockbustier than either of those. Security around the episode has been tight, with only minimal teasers like the brief footage shown at the end of last week's episode. For once, we've been spared a spoiler on how the Doctor escapes from his peril, as clips have focussed on Martha.

Digital Spy have a series of pictures from the finale if you're interested as well as a speculative article on what the episode might contain, but neither gives much away simply because there's nothing TO give away. Frustratingly for journalists there have been no preview tapes, briefings or even hints about what is going to happen. Brilliant! For once we can all settle down on an equal footing and enjoy a rip-roaring end to what has turned out to be an excellent series without knowing in advance what's coming. The only people in the know are those who were involved in making it.

So take the phone off the hook, switch off your mobile, turn off your PCs speakers and lock the door. Sort the drinks and the nibbles out early and turn down the lights. Let nothing distract you from the Last of the Time Lords and his ultimate battle with his lifelong nemesis. And please, please don't let those Toclafane be hiding Daleks...again!
